BARR

We know that success in a student’s 9th grade year can be a game-changer for overall student success in high school. BARR will support students in the following ways: fostering positive connections, providing space for intentional social-emotional learning, consistently monitoring attendance, and staying on track with grades/credits.

9th grade students will be on a team of 3-4 teachers. Throughout their day, they will have class with each of their team teachers. This structure does not change our class sizes in 9th grade, and we are still operating on a 7-period day - in that sense, nothing will change in a student’s schedule. Students will have classes throughout their day with teachers on their BARR team. Students will not necessarily travel together in groups to each of these team classes.

Implementing a team structure allows us to have common time during the day where team teachers can meet to discuss students, at times with counselors and an administrator. They can share student successes and intervene when students need additional support. They will monitor student’s grades and attendance throughout their day, not just their team classes. Our goal is to provide even more support for students and have a consistent point of contact for families. Each student will have a primary “BARR teacher” who will be connecting with families.
